(More customer reviews)This watch is a real showstopper. The picture does it no justice. The face is quite large but not too large. The calfskin band has a deployment clasp. The polished stainless steel and sapphire crystal shimmer very nicely in the light. The perpetual calendar keeps track of leap years and the watch is equipped with auto-relay so that the hands fall asleep after 24 hours of non-use to preserve energy but saves the correct time for up to 4 years. The watch comes back to life with a few shakes and the hands go back to the correct time automatically. All in all, you cannot find such a functional and beautiful watch for anywhere near this modest price. I suggest searching for this watch on Ebay as I got mine from there for under four hundred dollars.

(More customer reviews)For many years I have wanted a nice Seiko Kinetic watch.I have only had two dress watches in my life and they both were the cheap ($120) Guess brand watches that were terrible and each barely lasted me a year.But coughing up $120 for a watch was difficult, so the $499.00 here wasn't exactly an easy leap.So far I am completely satisfied with the watch but, as a disclaimer, I must admit that I have only had it about a month.There were three things that were important to me:

1) a very conservative looking time piece
2) an indicator for the DAY of the week (SUN-SAT) in addition to the actual date (28)
3) Seiko Kinetic (as I mentioned above)...this also has the Direct Drive system that reveals how much of a kinetic "charge" you have as well as some other "sleep" features (the Direct Drive was a bonus, albeit at a $100 more than the "same" watch less the Direct Drive indicator/system).

I like the look of the watch with the indicator, and the indicator provides useful data.I also preferred the roman numerals as opposed to the standard numbers on the face.I love the watch and really feel that I got a good value.

Today is May 9, 2010...if this watch craps out any time soon I will DEFINITELY come back to log complaints; however as time passes and the watch keeps on ticking then the lack of further comments can serve as confirmation of a quality product.

(More customer reviews)Have had my Arctura Kinetic for about a month now. I like it a lot.
The band adjustment was quite easy and the clasp mechanism is elegant and easy to use without pinching the skin on your wrist.
The design of the watch is what drew me to it and the quality of construction is Seiko through and through.
The clock hands are a bit difficult to see in low light, but not impossible. The timer hands are also a bit difficult to see, being red against black. An interesting alteration would be to have the timer hands painted ochre yellow, which might and to the high tech look.
Not sure why the timer only goes to 45 minutes, but as a radio commercial producer I'm usually working in 60-second bites anyway.

This kinetic-powered timepiece contains its own internal electrical generator--operated by natural wrist movements--making it independent of conventional storage batteries. The step-motion second hand will move in 2-second intervals when energy is reaching a level of less than 3 hours. Quad Burlwood Automatic Watch Winder for 4 Automatic Watches Review

(More customer reviews)Steinhausen's products appear to include many elegant, reliable, and quiet watch winders. I purchased the one you see here. While quite beautiful at a distance, upon closer examination, you can see the workmanship is flawed. This product is manufactured in China, obviously by a cut-rate manufacturer that cranks them out as quickly as possible. There is very little, if any, quality assurance for this product. All of the screws retaining the hinges were screwed in off-angle by a power drill. The latch only engages on one side, and overall, you can see a lack of quality in potentially a great product.
If you have small wrists, you will not be able to close your watch around the spring-loaded holders, so be conscious of that. Every watch manufacturer has a recommended number of revolutions and movements that should be executed each day for optimum performance, and their recommendations are based upon the calibre used in the watch. Some of my watches require a combination of CW and CCW movements, and up to 850 revolutions per day.
This winder does NOT rotate CW, then CCW as it states. Instead it rotates either CW or CCW. Although there are a number of switch settings on the back for rotation frequency and rotation movement, after playing with them for several hours, they do not perform as advertised.
Living in Japan, the hassle and cost of returning the product does not make it worth the effort. At the end of the day, my watches DO stay wound, which is why I bought it. The motors are are very quiet, which is a plus.
Note: The MAXIMUM number of revolutions per day with this product is 600 at any setting. If your watch requires more, perhaps you should look at another manufacturer. Overall, I was a little disappointed.

(More customer reviews)I decided to purchase this model after my last Seiko which was a battery operated perpetual: I found out the cost to replace the battery and have the perpetual calendar "re-calibrated" was 70$ after 5 years.

I am hoping this Arctura kinetic perpetual technology will be maintenance free for the next 10-14 years at least. The watch is slightly bigger than I expected and certainly has a solid feel (aka can feel heavy at times...may be the stainless steel bracelet).

However, its looks highly elegant, and most importantly, the technology inside is unbeatable.

Seiko Men's Watches Kinetic Auto Relay SMA011P - WW Review

(More customer reviews)I've owned this watch for coming to 8 years now. Back then, this watch was a "new model" and I was among the first few to own it. It is interesting to note that the price of this model hasn't come down much in the intervening years.

It has a nice dial with a "raised bump" in the middle, as can be seen in the photo. The watch keeps excellent time, and I have yet to see it run low on power all these years.

There's even once I left it in my drawer for like a year or so, totally untouched. I took it out, gave it a couple of good shakes, and the hands moved to the correct time. In all that time, the watch lost about a minute of time or so, no big deal to me.

Personally, I think that this watch looks great. The only other watches that I think look better would be those from the Arctura line of Seiko.

What I like:
1. Sleek design, still looks great after all these years.
2. Slim, not bulky.
3. Can be worn as a casual watch too.
4. The "mineral glass" only has 1 scratch in all the years of use. Pretty good testament to the quality!

What I don't like:
1. The watch band gets scratched very easily.
2. No "foldover safety clasp" on the band. Just a personal preference though.
3. While the time may be kept, you still have to adjust the date manually if you bring the watch out of sleep mode after leaving it alone for a period of time. Then again it is probably an inherent problem in analogue watches and you can't really fault this particular model for it.
