(More customer reviews)Steinhausen's products appear to include many elegant, reliable, and quiet watch winders. I purchased the one you see here. While quite beautiful at a distance, upon closer examination, you can see the workmanship is flawed. This product is manufactured in China, obviously by a cut-rate manufacturer that cranks them out as quickly as possible. There is very little, if any, quality assurance for this product. All of the screws retaining the hinges were screwed in off-angle by a power drill. The latch only engages on one side, and overall, you can see a lack of quality in potentially a great product.
If you have small wrists, you will not be able to close your watch around the spring-loaded holders, so be conscious of that. Every watch manufacturer has a recommended number of revolutions and movements that should be executed each day for optimum performance, and their recommendations are based upon the calibre used in the watch. Some of my watches require a combination of CW and CCW movements, and up to 850 revolutions per day.
This winder does NOT rotate CW, then CCW as it states. Instead it rotates either CW or CCW. Although there are a number of switch settings on the back for rotation frequency and rotation movement, after playing with them for several hours, they do not perform as advertised.
Living in Japan, the hassle and cost of returning the product does not make it worth the effort. At the end of the day, my watches DO stay wound, which is why I bought it. The motors are are very quiet, which is a plus.
Note: The MAXIMUM number of revolutions per day with this product is 600 at any setting. If your watch requires more, perhaps you should look at another manufacturer. Overall, I was a little disappointed.

(More customer reviews)Purchased from SkyMall.It showed up looking like a nice quality winder for my Rolex and Breitling watches.However, after about a week I noticed that I could suddenly hear the motor when the winders turned.After only one month the noise was so loud that we had to unplug the winder at night because it would wake us up...and mind you, the winder was on the opposite end of our 18ft bedroom!

I put several calls and e-mails in Steinhausen with NO reply!I finally made one last ditch effort and contacted SkyMall.Their customer service was excellent and they told me that they would contact Steinhausen on my behalf.Funny, because suddenly Steinhausen was willing to help once SkyMall called for me.It took about a month but a replacement unit was shipped out directly from Steinhausen.There was no RA number or information for the defective unit.I again called Steinhausen and sent e-mail with no reply.I decided that I was going to just throw away the bad unit when I received an e-mail from Steinhausen stating they were going to charge me because I never shipped back the defective winder?!They finally e-mailed me a shipping label when I replied to that e-mail.Needless to say I found Steinhausen to have terrible customer support!!!

Unfortunately, only after a month the replacement winder also started to develop a loud grinding sound.I sprayed a little WD-40 and it helped for about a week but then the sound came back louder than ever.I have since unplugged this winder too because it would wake us up in the middle of the night...it is THAT loud!!

I again contacted Steinhausen and never did get a reply...I gave up and decided I'd try to open the thing and see why it was so loud.To my astonishment I sawthat the winder was NOT "lacquered wood" at all, instead it is shinny black paper over cheap wood!!You can get the same garbage quality winders from China on eBay for $99.

I strongly recommend that people avoid Steinhausen winders!They are terrible quality and customer service/support is even worse.I was about to purchase a more expensive $700 winder at a reputable jeweler when I stumbled across a Quad winder at Brookstone.The Brookstone unit doesn't have the extra storage and is a bit bulkier but it really is whisper quiet and high quality for the same price as the Steinhausen model.Go with the Brookstone winder or be prepared to shell out big money for a professional quality winder, but avoid the Steinhausen winder at all costs!

(More customer reviews)I spent a lot of time trying to find a winder that was both affordable and provided all of the options of an expensive winder.Some winders look cool, some have storage, some can wind multiple watches at different speeds, and some are combinations of all these traits.This one is simple and has greater functionality than similar winders.I really wanted a winder with options that would tell me exactly how many rotations per day it would make, with multiples choices of RPDs.Not just one to three speeds that is unclear how many rotations it's making.This definitely fit the bill.I have only two automatic watches, a Rolex and a Tag Heuer, and both have the same suggested rotations per day of 650 to 800.I leave it at 650 all the time so that the watches aren't over-stressed.My only complaint is that taking the watches out is not so easy.Though it would probably be easily solved by placing a string of some sort behind the cushion holding the watch, so that all one has to do is pull the string to loosen the cushion.I just thought of that, I'll have to try it out.It just needs a grip of some sort to pull out the cushion and the attached watch, without that grip having to be my very expensive watch.I'm glad I chose this winder and it has served me very well so far.There are certainly a number of less expensive winders, but I found Orbita to be a more reputable maker, and again, with the ability to set the speed I found this to be the next best solution versus purchasing a winder for $900 or more.

(More customer reviews)I own many automatic watches and wanted an inexpensive winder to keep them going.Most have a day/date so I like to keep them wound so I don't have to keep resetting the day and date.Overall, I find the winder does its job. It is a pretty large winder (ensure you read the dimensions so you won't be surprised when a huge box comes in the mail)

PROS:
-Relatively quiet
-Keeps most of my automatics running....I have everything from a cheap russian diver to an Omega Seamaster Pro...and Seiko dive watches rounding out the middle....pretty varied for a winder...out of the 8 I -have on it, 2 have issues keeping wound...all watches are different.
-The finish is beautiful and the soft leather appearance inside are fitting for your nice watches
-The price was outstanding for any winder, especially for one that winds 8
-It also holds an additional 7 below the winders.I have some large diameter watches and they hold them well

CONS:
-You must be careful with watches with thicker bands when placing them into each winder slot.Because of the way the rotator sits on the motor, it can warp or knock out of alignment.The rotation still works but it makes a bit more noise.The nice thing is that the pillows come apart from the outer ring so you can flex your watch into the slot easier.
- Only 2 motors controlling 4 winders so the options depending on your watch type are limited.THey mitigate this by offering 4 levels of winding.Clockwise, Counterclockwise, combo, each with different time settings.

Overall I would recommend this product.I would rather spend my money on nice watches than a $4,000 winder.I am very happy with the functioning of the winder over the last 3 months running.Except for what I noted in the CONS, no other issues.continusouslyl

(More customer reviews)I have a number of high end watches that I like to keep running, and I thought this Diplomat Burl Wood Eight Watch Winder would do the trick. Unfortunately, while the unit looks good and appears to be well constructed, the drive system doesn't work very well. Within weeks the spinner I used for my Panerai and Orris watches stopped spinning unless I kick start it with a gentle nudge. Initially, all spinners would start and stop together. Now, one set starts then the other some time later. Finally, the unit used to be reasonably quiet. Now one pair of spinners is making a strange sound while spinning. Rather than go through the hassle of shipping and repair and possibly more problems later on, I will just go out and find a high end model that I can trust.

One of my watches stopped working from lack of winding in the machine but I think I need to put it on a setting that rotates the watch more frequently. You can set up four programs for each of the four winders in the box. There is a pop-out tray that can hold pens or thin watches that can lay flat. I'm using it for pens.

The material is very good quality and the hinges rival those of products costing 3x more. The only obviously cheap part is the bottom of the pop-out tray. It's just a paper cover. Because of that, you can see a slight, thin white line at the bottom front of the tray.

I would recommend this product at this price point.

Update: I've put the winder away. It doesn't work very well with Seiko kinetic watches. With the regular automatic style watches, the watch has to be placed rather precisely in order to for it to be wound. I believe the winders are not horizontal enough to be completely effective.
