It is actually a purple, not blue.Over all.The worst piece of just you could buy.It is a very, "sloppy" movement.Hard to set as it is difficult to know what position the crown is in when you pull it out.You would be better off wearing a sun dial on your wrist.

Automatic watches do not operate on batteries. Automatic watches are made up of about 130 or more parts that work together to tell time. Automatic movements mark the passage of time by a series of gear mechanisms, and are wound by the movement of your wrist as you wear it. Swiss Legend Men's 18010A-11 Tungsten Collection Automatic Black Mother of Pearl Watch Review

(More customer reviews)This watch is gorgeous and heavy, made of virtually scratchproof tungsten, with sapphire cyrstal in front and on the display case in back. These materials and the build quality of the watch itself are impeccable and not readily found in watches costing much less than $1,200.

What a bargain you say? Well, there are some problems. The black mother of pearl face makes the numbers kind of hard to read. The skinny featureless second hand has no pointer or different color marker on it, so tracking it around the watch face is tricky. Biggest problem though is the "Swiss Made" CL888 movement.

Under Swiss law, this movement is technically Swiss made as more than 50% of the total value of parts in the movement are of Swiss origin. Unfortunately, the clever manufacturer can get around this law by buying a cheap Chinese movement and adding a few high value Swiss parts to it to knock the movement over the 50% line. In this case, we have a Chinese Seagull ST16 movement with a few Swiss gold plated parts and with the 21 synthetic jewels in the movement coming from Switzerland. These parts add no real functional value to the movement versus a base Seagull ST16 made with Chinese rubies, but they do allow the company to call it a "Swiss movement."

I am no snob - Seagull does have a good rep, the best of the Chinese automatic watchmakers, and some of their recent movements like the ST18 & 21 really do challenge Swiss or Japanese movements for quality. However, the ST16 is one of their earlier, clunkier movements, and sadly my Swiss Legend is the poster boy for this period of lower competence. The second hand staggers around like a drunken zombie on the watch face, hesitating here, jerking there, moving very sporadically and unevenly.

The rest of the movement seems fine - it does "hack" (meaning you can stop the second hand) and can be handwound. Moreover, the watch does keep good time despite the second hand jerking around. So it is really just a question of aesthetics, but this is important for an expensive watch, and seeing the second hand twitch around like a compass needle at the North Pole ruins the effect of the costly and elegant case.

Swiss Legend probably builds very nice quartzes, and it is apparent what the problem is with this automatic. Mainly they wanted to build a "Swiss Made" automatic but did not want to pay ETA or Sellita to use a more reliable and expensive Swiss movement. Instead they used the deservedly obscure Claro CL 888, which does not appear to be the world's most polished movement. Even at that, it looks like quality control at Swiss Legend was either asleep when my watch went out the door or perhaps they don't know what an automatic movement is supposed to look like!
They should have just used a cheap though adequate Miyota like Invicta does for their lower end autos and trim the price a bit or should have paid more and gotten a Sellita or ETA.

Bottom line: watch is well made, looks nice, has some visibility issues with the face and second hand. The watch tells time acceptably well but the extreme ugliness of its movement's function in the process will repel most buyers.

(More customer reviews)gotit. yes, my lapis dial swiss legend tungsten auto. simply superb. since i just put it on after sizing it, and am enjoying it too much to be overly verbose, i'll write my review by the numbers, hitting the points that i feel are important, and/or had been a concern prior to purchase, and how the watch met or exceeded expectations...for those who need to cut to the chase before reading, this watch is simply stellar!

points:
1. looks better even than the promo pictures.
2. weight is not overbearing at all. i've owned braceleted omega auto chrono diver years ago, and this is in that realm and quite acceptable, not overwhelming like one would think a tungsten would be. albeit, with a huge valjoux 7750 chrono movement, it might be too much. ALSO, i'm sure not feeling overheavy is due to the simply remarkable design of the watch and bracelet which are not only beautiful, technically impeccable, but designed in a fashion to be supremely comfortable. despite loving bracelet watches, i'd planned to put this on a leather strap for what i assumed would be weight issues, but having gotten this, it feels delightful on wrist, and i'm now addicted to the feel (never mind the look) of this piece.
3. fears of the cl888 were not founded. i'd seen 4 year old youtube shots of the second hand on this movement back then (on the then zodiac luminaire diver), moving around the dial like (as reviewers have said) a drunken sailor. not many, but it was enough of a problem to result in youtube documentation and bad reviews on the cl888. well, this is very even around and round the dial, and certainly no concern in this piece i received.
4. fears of the dial, not founded. i had one fear aside of the movement that was not founded, and that was that this dial would be as ugly and inappropriate on a sport watch as the rolex roman numeral dials. i pointedly did NOT get the motherpearl dial because of the femina look as well (just my opinion on it)...so got the lapis. well, the lapis is simply outstanding and beautiful. and i don't at all mind the roman numeral dial...this watch is so wonderfully put together, this looks like a breitling, which often is too ornate for my sensibilities, but i'm really won over. i have accepted this roman numeral designer stone dial on a sport diver watch because it is sooo beautifully executed...and i'm philosophically opposed to that ornatery...so this is a testament to the finish and design of this incredible watch.
5. overall...i fell as if i'm wearing a $2500 watch. and i've owned and worn some...breitling chronos and divers, autos, on bracelets and leather, rolex sub on bracelet, omega chrono diver auto on bracelet, sinn big auto chronos on leather and bracelet>>>this in beauty and operation matches, if not exceeds, all of them.
6. knocks...minor>>>a. i'd prefer not to have the slightly overdone self-promotion of having them write 'lapis dial' on the dial. i felt so strongly about that i almost bought the mopearl instead...but the lapis was so beautiful in the ads, i went for it. i still don't like the words 'lapis dial' on the watch, but it's not a concern since the dial is so exquisite.
b. screws are a bit tough to get out on the bracelet to downsize, and require 2 very small watch/eyeglass screwdrivers and a strong/steady hand, and a loupe...but that's really ok because it's done to keep the screws from working looser with wear...so when you do put your bracelet back together, do the screws tightly.
c. in essence a chinese movement, the seagull. well, at least it doesn't say 'chinese movt' on the dial. the one reason i never got their (invicta's) original japanese movt tungsten, which had some problems with bracelet pins coming out, was that it said 'japanese movt' on the dial. this is technically a swiss movt, but we all (wink wink) know the truth, it just a gussied up seagull, beautied up a bit by semag switzerland. well, in the end, that's not an issue to me. the seagull has proven itself in the last few years on a par with the workhorse eta movt's that are usually in these non-chrono divers, and i'm happy to enjoy it. HOWEVER, it's true, had this had any other nationality mentioned on the dial or watch other than swiss, i would NOT have purchased it. having NO nationality on the dial is fine. having 'japan' written on japanese watches is fine (as in seiko), or 'china' written on chinese watches (seagulls) is fine. i hate watches that have a swiss heritage such as invicta and croton, playing on that heritage, yet writing 'japan movt' on the dial. if you're hiding a non-swiss movt in a watch parading as swiss, at least have the good sense not to telegraph that on the dial

here, swiss legend did one better, they technically took a chinese movt and made it 'swiss'...so that works for me. i applaud swiss legend for at least not doing what invicta/croton do, making a franken watch where it is apparent it was made in two or more countries...totally difficult to be proud of something like that on your wrist.

CONCLUSiON: get this you fool, if you haven't already. classes with the $2500 watches easy, and perhaps is better than some. at least it's on a par with many.
