(More customer reviews)This watch is an attention getter. The hands and lettering contrast nicely with the dial, and the 21,000 beat second hand is very visable. The all metal band has a nice finish and compliments the watch.

Functionally, the watch has the standard hour, minute, and second hands along with two additional hands on sub-dials for date and 40 hour power reserve. There is a moving inner-chapter ring that displays the time against a settable outer-chapter ring listing twenty different cities. So the watch is busy, but pleasantly so. There is a presentation back that displays the sutomatic rotor and the balance wheel when the rotor is not blocking it.

There is no stem-wind function. The watch requires some arm-movement to get it going from an unwound condition and so it is best to have a watch-winder device if you're not going to wear it all the time becuase setting all the dials to be in synchronization is a bit tedious.

The watch has proven to be a good timekeeper, staying easily withing it's 15 second/day accuracy claim, but only if the reserve wind is greater than 10 hours.

Putting all this into perspective, this watch makes a great entry into the mechanical watch realm for the collector looking for the best bang for the buck.

An automatic (or self-winding) watch is fitted with a device (rotor) that automatically winds the spring by using the force of gravity. Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the self-winding mechanism in 1770. It worked on the same principle as a modern pedometer, and was designed to wind as the owner walked.

(More customer reviews)I have just started wearing this National Geographic TimeTrekker watch, and it definitely feels heavier on my wrist than the Casio Ana-Digi that it replaces. This new watch is also bigger: warning, this is a very large men's watch! I really like the appearance, and the features of this watch fit my wishes quite well.

The watch packaging does not include a user's manual. Please watch my video to see a few more of my comments. My biggest complaint is the National Geographic logo, which is right at 12:00, on TOP of the crystal face. So the logo constantly blocks view of the top of the LCD display below, as well as the analog hands when they are near 12. This logo placement is a serious design flaw to me. So if you're considering this watch, be aware of it's large size (suits me OK, but be aware), and the Logo location right on top of the crystal face.

I would have preferred a paper manual to get started, although it is convenient to have the manual available online (anyone else lose track of their manuals after a year or two, when you really need it?!?).

One of the specs I read is a 5-year battery life on this unit. I will be curious to see how well it lives up to this! When battery change time comes, it will be IMPORTANT to have the pdf manual handy, as it will be necessary if "hands synchronization" is necessary (page #21 of the manual). Hands synchronization brings the analog hands back in sync with the digital display, which perhaps can happen when the battery gets low? My former Casio Waveceptor watch had that problem, and I was thankful I found that online manual to help me sync the hands.

National Geographic Men's NG730GSMK Signature Mega Steel Diver Watch Review

(More customer reviews)One feature that drew me to this watch was its 1000m depth rating. It is pretty heavy and thick and I wouldn't be surprised if it did keep on working after a 1000 meter dive. The 2 o'clock subdial measures seconds while the 10 o'clock subdial measures elapsed chronograph minutes up to 30 minutes. The subdials are pretty small but legible. The chronograph pushers and crown are screw down for improved water resistance. The chrono pushers need to be unscrewed before they can be used.

One thing I don't like is that the knurling on the unidirectional dive bezel is too smooth and takes a little effort to turn. My bezel was also slightly off from the markings of the watch. The watch keeps decent time, I lost about 7 seconds in a 4 week period. However I did notice that the day & date flip at 22:15 instead of 23:59 like it should. This presents the potential of telling the wrong day & date if you're looking at your watch after 22:00 in the evenings. As for the chronograph a caveat, once in a while the chronograph will require re-calibration, pretty unusual for a quartz watch.

The watch isn't bad, but has issues take prevent me from giving it 4 or 5 stars. The watch's retail price makes it overpriced though, I would not have bought mine if it had cost retail or close to it.

I purchased this watch 5 weeks ago from elsewhere - it has been a great Buying experience.I'd Buy it again.I only paid $59.99 for it, and it is still available at that price.

We just got back from Belize and the Blue Hole. It worked GREAT as my backup, allowing me to use it to update my dive log (Max Depth, Bottom Time, min Water Temp), while I left my dive computer/reg and BCD with the dive shop. I never had to press any of its buttons under water, though I am sure that some of them got pressed inadvertently as I moved around - it still works. I got into the habit of parking my gauge/computer under the right side of my BCD, while using quick glances at the watch to check my depth and dive time (to know when the dive master was going to call us to go up to the safety stop). It was wonderful convenience that left both of my hands free, without fear of destroying the coral if my dive computer swung down, etc. I also think that diving hands-free must be safer. It also beeps if you are going up too fast - it can be aggravating at first, but it absolutely taught me good (safe) habit of coming up slower. As such, I'd consider it an absolute MUST HAVE safety equipment for a new diver, not yet used to perfect control of their buoyancy. Every diver who saw it wanted one as soon as they heard the price and functionality. Why ruin an otherwise perfect dive when you can use this and your dive charts (by the book)? My wife loved it as well. Lastly, I wore it for 2 weeks solid while I was awake (and the prior week at the office) - you get used to it (and it helps build up your arm ;-)
