First, the T6D and T6C appear and operate the same; apparently, the T6D is a later firmware version (May 2010), but from talking with T6C owners, there doesn't appear to be any discernable difference.

I have been running for six months or so, using another HRM that only measured BPM in conjunction with the Nike+ foot pod, and began having serious issues with the Nike+.After two sensor changes and mutliple reboots of my iPhone, I gave up on that combo and began looking for an alternative.I am beginning cross-training on a bike for a duathlon, and I was looking for more information on endurance progress for the run along with integration with bike measurements.

The T6D came boxed with the dual HR belt and the foot pod, and a computer interface cable. The dual belt turned out to be a bonus, as it "talks" to the gym equipment at my fitness center in addition to the ANT link to the T6D.Setup and matching the pods to the watch was quick and easy. The dual belt is indeed very comfortable, much more so than my previous (Polar) belt. I have not had any problems with the belt not picking up my HR signal. The foot pod attaches easily to the laces. The computer link is quick and easy, and has worked without any issues.

I wore the combo for a week of training, then a local 5K race. The combo has worked flawlessly, and the information available from the software has been instrumental in modifying my training program. In addition to the free included software, there is software available from FirstBeat (FirstBeat Athlete) that provides a recommended training program. Both software packages track speed, distance, respiratory rate, %vO2max, EPOC and training effort, and more.A month on, I am using the T6D to track all my training. The FirstBeat and Suunto sites have a wealth of information on training while using this (and other) monitors.

Some issues:First, the calibration process for the foot pod is not clear in the T6D manual.A better description is in the Pod manual, but it could be better yet.You can either calibrate on a measured run of LESS THAN 2 miles or 2 kilometers (depending on how you have the unit measurement display configured), OR adjust a calibration factor manually based on the difference between the displayed distance and the actual (measured) difference (for a run longer than 2k/2mi).Second, the optional GPS pod does NOT record location data, although it does a good job on distance and pace.

Finally, the Suunto user forum is not a busy place, but is helpful and has provided me with guidance on both the calibration issue and on some technical questions on the parameters in the reports. The folks that hang out there seem to be knowledgable and willing to jump in.

The only thing I would do differently would be to pick up one of the fancier color options rather than the grey/black version ;).

Product Description:
Suunto t6d Running Pack is a comprehensive performance pack for competitive runners, combining the Suunto t6d heart rate monitor, Suunto Foot POD, and Suunto DualComfort Belt. You'll get a complete analysis of your training sessions, with equipment designed to maximize comfort - even on longer runs. The Suunto t6d heart rate monitor analyzes seven key physiological parameters, including real-time EPOC, to determine your cardiovascular performance. The real-time Training Effect gives you an accurate measure of how hard your body's working at a quick glance, so you can continue with a minimum of interruption. Tracking your Training Effect over time takes the guesswork out of tweaking your training schedule. The Suunto t6d also gives a read-out of your EPOC - your excess post-exercise oxygen consumption level - which lets you measure your training load and adjust future training sessions - and recovery - as needed. The water-resistant Suunto Foot POD gives you real-time speed and distance information, so you have a laboratory-accurate pace monitor with you when you run. Do speedwork, not guesswork: set the interval timers to a chosen distance or time, or set an alarm to help you keep your heart rate in a predefined zone.
