Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)I am a pilot who owns other aviator watches including several Breitling models and a Citizen Skyhawk AT.I really like the styling of this watch and the quality seems high.It is fairly hefty and a good size.
The poly strap seems durable and also of very good quality. In the heat of the summer cockpit, leather bands can wear down fast from sweat and also take on an unpleasant odor, so this type of band or stainless steel (or Titanium) is a must. The nice thing about this type of band over the metal bands - is the lighter weight and the adjustability. You cannot typically adjust a steel or titanium band easily - you have to remove or add links. With this band, you get to adjust the fit anytime - wear it loose or tight.
On the less practical side, the E6B on this watch is probably too small and difficult to use in the cockpit.I would prefer a rotating bezel for the outer scale of the E6B.This watch instead uses the knurled top button as a dial to rotate the outer scale of the flight computer. It takes a lot of turning on the small button to complete a rotation of the outer scale, and it would probably only be useful in the smoothest of flight conditions. Yet it is fine for quick preflight planning or hangar flying.
The sapphire crystal is perfectly flat, and I worry about the potential for glare. The sapphire crystal doesn't give off the blue/purple hue that I am accustomed to and much prefer with high quality sapphire watch crystals - but I am glad it is at least a sapphire crystal for maximum scratch resistance.
This watch offers very few functions. It has a secondary small dial for keeping track of another time zone (usually ZULU for a pilot).Unfortunately it is only a 12hr dial - not the much preferred 24hr dial appreciated by pilots.Other than this second time zone, a second hand and the date display, there are no other features. The bezel does not rotate, so you cannot set countdown or count up reminders. There are no chrono (stopwatch) functions.
The luminescent hands and markers are large but average in night functionality. They are like any glow in the dark material: It takes a charge of light to energize them, and then they slowly fade out.Don't expect Luminox lighting here.
I give this watch only 3.5 stars for pilot functionality. It tells time with large hands, has a sweeping second hand, and is tested for vibration and other relevant environmental stressors. So it is certainly useful but could offer more, like a rotating count down bezel, 24hr dial for the second time zone and self-powered luminscent hands and markers.
I give the watch 5 stars in terms of style and build quality.Style is subjective of course and my opinion is this is an eye catching watch, but there is no denying the quality.
I also give the company itself 5 stars for their commitment to aviation watchcraft and for sponsoring the Torgoen Academy of Flight Safety.
If you want a lot of gadgetry in an E6B watch, you might want to look at Citizen Skyhawk AT. But if you want stand out style and Swiss workmanship - you can't go wrong with the Torgoen.

Other features include a scratch-resistant mineral crystal and water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet)--offering protection from accidental splashes as well suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and light recreational diving. It comes with a detailed instruction booklet on operating the flight computer features.
Using this watch's flight computer/slide rule feature, you can easily make a variety of calculations including currency conversion. Using a Flight Computer Watch
This Torgoen watch can be used as a regular circular slide rule or a flight computer. It uses the calculation abilities of a slide rule to calculate time, speed and distance, and fuel consumption, as well as useful conversions such as statute miles to nautical miles, metric units to English units, or US Dollars to British Pounds. Easy to use after just a little practice, you'll be able to perform some calculations more quickly than with a hand-held calculator.
As an example, suppose the conversion rate for the Swiss Franc is SFR 1.60 to $1.00. Rotate the outer scale to match 16 over 10, the outer scale becomes Swiss Francs and the middle scale becomes US dollars. You can leave the scales like that until the exchange rate changes. If you want to convert SFR 4.00 to dollars you look at the number in the middle scale opposite the 40 on the outer scale. The number is 25. You can therefore deduce that SFR4.00 are $2.50 (see example image at right).
